The Verkehrswwissenschaftliche Lehrmittelgesellschaft (VWL) was originally a publishing house that was founded in 1924 in close cooperation with the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft . After the Second World War , it was taken over by the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) and passed to the Deutsche Bahn AG (DB AG) with the rail reform in 1994 . As DB Media & Buch GmbH , it provides media services for DB AG.

Reichsbahn time

In agreement with the head office of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft, he published some official works, but also teaching aids for the training and further education of railway workers. These included: General writings on the Reichsbahn, writings on social affairs, operations, traffic, construction and machine technology, railway law , finance, standardized abbreviation and teaching material booklets, but also entertainment literature. On the occasion of the publisher's five-year existence in 1929, he had already published 150 works (including new editions).

The publishing house was based in Berlin until 1937 , then in Leipzig.

After the war, the Transport Science Teaching Aid Society in West Germany was taken over by the Deutsche Bundesbahn and continued with a new headquarters in Frankfurt am Main and later in Kassel .

With the rail reform , VWL was transferred to Deutsche Bahn AG and has since been trading as DB Media & Buch GmbH . For DB AG, among other things, she takes on the issue of publications, media planning , operated an online shop for specialist books until 2018 and was responsible for purchasing media services until 2019.

In 2015, the then managing director was suspended after irregularities in the award of services in the area of ​​internet advertising. Corresponding criminal proceedings against him and other co-defendants have been taking place at the Kassel Regional Court since 2019 ; according to press reports, they are accused of fraud in the millions at the expense of DB AG.
