Kassel District Court

The Kassel Regional Court is a court of ordinary jurisdiction and one of nine regional courts in Hesse . It is based in Kassel .

building

The district court (LG) Kassel has its seat at Frankfurter Straße 7 opposite the Karlskirche . The Kassel Public Prosecutor's Office , the Kassel District Court and the Kassel Senate of the Higher Regional Court (OLG) Frankfurt am Main are also housed in the same building complex . The building was built in the 1960s. In 1994 a fundamental renovation, restoration and restructuring of the justice center was commissioned by the Ministry of Justice of the State of Hesse. The existing buildings have been renovated and partially increased, and two new buildings have been erected. The regional court then moved into one of the two newly built buildings. Overall, the measures gained 11,000 square meters of new space. In November 2004, Prime Minister Roland Koch and Justice Minister Christean Wagner opened the new complex. In 2008, the clients and architects received the Simon-Louis-du-Ry plaque from the BDA for good architecture in Hesse .

history

As the seat of the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel , Kassel had been the seat of higher courts for centuries. The reorganization of the judiciary in the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1807 led to the separation of jurisdiction and administration. The department of Fulda was now responsible for the administration , the case law in the second instance was carried out by the Kassel district court . This was the second instance responsible for the justice of the peace , which had been formed at cantonal level.

With the end of the Kingdom of Westphalia in 1813, the separation of jurisdiction and administration was reversed and the Electorate of Hesse reintroduced the old organizational forms in 1814.

By ordinance of June 29, 1821, administration and justice were separated in Kurhessen . Now there were for "internal management" on the lower level, the circuits and the first instance Court of Justice offices , responsible as courts of second instance were higher courts, in this case the Supreme Court Kassel (also known as the Superior Court for the Province of Lower Hesse called) was introduced. The judicial district was the province of Niederhessen .

After the German War in 1866 , Prussia annexed (officially: "Union" with) Kurhessen. The higher court was repealed and in 1867 it was replaced by the district court of Kassel , and in 1879 by the district court of Kassel after the reorganization of the Reich Justice Acts.

In 1933, a special court assigned to the regional court was set up "... to ward off insidious attacks against the government of the national insurrection". By March 1945, four thousand people, including about 1200 from Kassel, were involved in political proceedings for "treachery", "decomposition of military strength", "Broadcasting crimes " etc. accused as so-called " pests of the people ".

In 1935 the Prussian Regional Court of Kassel - like all courts in the German states - was directly subordinate to the Reich Ministry of Justice .

After the Second World War, the judicial authorities were rebuilt in Hesse by the American occupation forces. The regional court in Kassel was also re-established in October 1945 as an institution of the (then) state of Greater Hesse . The judicial district now included the administrative district of Kassel . Some responsibilities have been transferred to the Marburg Regional Court and the Fulda Regional Court .

The LG Kassel gained nationwide fame through the trial of the parricide of Morschen and the cannibal von Rotenburg Armin Meiwes .

Albrecht Simon has been President of the Court since 2014.
