Veronika Elsner

Veronika Elsner (born 1952 ) is a German type designer .

Live and act

From 1970 to 1974, Veronika Elsner studied at the Hamburg University of Design and was already working on the digitization of fonts. She then worked as a freelancer for NDR companies and other companies, where she was already working with the Ikarus font production software . In 1985 she founded the EF design studio together with Günther Flake. In 1986 the design duo founded Elsner + Flake, which offers fonts in digital form. In 1992 the mail order company Elsner + Flake Fontinform GmbH was founded. In addition to font distribution, the designer couple also offers font advice, the creation of company-specific fonts and technical advice. This made the design office the link between typeface design and production.

Works

As early as 1977 she began experimental typographical work in the office run jointly with Flake, which resulted in collaboration with leading management consultants and led to new approaches in the conception. Such a formal language emerged very early on , which only became established in the late 1980s with the spread of personal computers . Elsner + Flake's font library comprises around 2500 fonts, including the ›Typoart‹ group with 40 fonts from the former GDR and an edition of digitized metal type fonts . Since fonts that can be used internationally have gained in importance in the course of globalization , fonts with Greek , Hebrew and Cyrillic glyphs have increasingly been offered. Veronika Elsner and Günther Flake have been selling the fonts online since 2000.
