Hildegard Korger

Hildegard Korger (born June 18, 1935 in Reichenberg ; † November 8, 2018 ) was a German type designer .

Live and act

Korger moved from her hometown Reichenberg (today Liberec, Czech Republic ) to Heiligendamm in 1956 to study at the technical school for applied arts there until 1959 ; Subsequently, from 1959 to 1963, she studied at the University of Graphic and Book Art Leipzig (HGB), in particular with Prof. Albert Kapr . From 1963 to 1965 she worked as a freelancer, initially as an assistant at the HGB, where she taught from 1979 and was appointed professor in 1992. From 1976 to 1984 she was also a script consultant in the office of the chief architect of the city of Leipzig and a member of committees on issues relating to the preservation of monuments and art in buildings. Her educational activity shaped many generations of students and the reputation of the HGB, because, in addition to knowledge and craftsmanship, she imparted a high degree of form security and attached importance to the reflection of taste and tradition in dealing with writing . She held visiting professorships in Dresden and Braunschweig . In 1999 she stopped teaching, but continued to work as a font designer. She was a member of the Association Typographique Internationale .

Works

She became known for her font designs for the Typoart foundry (including the Font Kis , which was published in 2006 by Elsner + Flake as an Open-Type Pro version) and her specialist books, especially writing and writing .
