Norbert Hornig

Norbert Hornig (born May 27, 1935 in Langenbielau , Silesia ) is a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Hornig were expelled from Silesia at the end of 1946, his mother settled with him in Leipzig . In Leipzig-Volkmarsdorf he trained as a baker from 1949 to 1952. From 1953 to 1958 he was a culture and sports instructor with the FDJ . From 1958 to 1963 he studied under the guidance of Gerhard Kurt Müller and Heinz Wagner at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig and graduated with a diploma. From 1963 to 1967 Norbert Hornig worked as a freelance artist and designed posters, among others for the FDGB , which stood out in their free conception. From 1967 to 1970 he was a trainee with Heinz Wagner at the University of Graphic Arts and Book Art in Leipzig and then worked as a freelancer again. In 1971 and 1977 he was secretary of the International Book Art Exhibition (Iba).

From 1978 to 1991 Hornig taught at the university for industrial design, Halle in the basic course. In 1981 he was appointed lecturer and 1984 professor. In 1985 Hornig founded the graphic press "CUM FIGURIS PRESSE". In 1986 he started to build up his studio in the Dübener Heide. Since 1992 Hornig has been working as a freelancer again. In 2005 he was awarded the Gellert Prize for Fine Arts. Hornig lives and works in Leipzig.
