Veronika Mitsopoulos-Leon

Veronika Mitsopoulos-Leon ( Greek Βερόνικα Μητσοπούλου -Leon, also Βερόνικα Μητσοπούλου-Λεόν, * 1936 in Berlin ) is an Austrian classical archaeologist .

She studied at the University of Innsbruck , where she received her doctorate in 1959. 1960–1963 she took part in excavations in Brauron , 1960–1981 she led the Austrian team during the excavations in Elis in cooperation with the Archaeological Society of Athens . 1961–1972 she took part in excavations in Ephesus . 1964–2001 she headed the Athens branch of the Austrian Archaeological Institute . In 1980 she resumed excavations in Lousoi , which she was in charge of until 2006. In 1993 she completed her habilitation in Innsbruck.

She published numerous excavation reports, congress contributions and articles, especially on ceramics and small finds, as well as monographs on ceramics from Ephesus, terracottas from Brauron and small finds from the Artemis sanctuary of Lousoi. On the occasion of the centenary of the Austrian Archaeological Institute in Athens, she published two volumes.
