Veronikamarterl
The Veronikamarterl in the municipality of Pulkau in Lower Austria is a listed building .
History and description
The Veronikamarterl from 1623 stands between trees on a small but steep elevation next to the state road 1056 from Pulkau to Leodagger north of the intersection with state road 41. The bank of the Pulkau pond used to be here, which has since been drained.
A column with a square tabernacle with a cross stands on a ground-covered and overgrown base plate .
The slender stone column is chamfered at its corners , so that a cube is formed at the top and bottom . Since the smooth column shows no signs of weathering, it is assumed that an older column was replaced during a renovation, whereby any existing inscriptions were lost.
On the column sits a tabernacle, closed on all sides, which bears reliefs of saints on three sides in shallow niches :
