Véronique Sanson (born April 24, 1949 in Boulogne-Billancourt ) is a French chansonnière and songwriter.

Life

In 1972 she released her first album, Amoureuse , produced by Michel Berger - who remained a close confidante until his death in 1992 - , which was twice awarded gold in France. The title song she wrote became a widely covered worldwide hit. Performers include Kiki Dee , who made the song successful in England, and Helen Reddy , who published it as an emotion . Other important titles on this album were Bahia , Besoin de Personne and Mariavah.

From 1973 to 1979 she was married to the American musician Stephen Stills , with whom she had their son Chris Stills , who was born in 1974 and is also a singer / songwriter. At that time she lived primarily in the USA, and her album Vancouver , recorded there in 1976 - with the title song of the same name - attracted her worldwide attention, including in German-speaking countries. This album also contained some English-language tracks.

In the early 1980s she returned to France, where in 1985 her self-titled album took 15th place on the charts. The album Sans regrets reached sixth place in 1992, while the albums Indestructible and D'un papillon à une étoile both reached second place in 1998 and 1999, respectively. In 2004, Longue Distance became their only number one album, after reaching third place in 2010 with Plusieurs Lunes .

In 1993 and 1996 she was awarded the important Victoires de la Musique Prize, which has been distributed since 1985, as the best female artist. She was the first person to receive this award twice. In 2013 she and Sheila and Enrico Macias were awarded the Victoires d'Honneur, the Victoires d'Honneur, for their life's work.

In 1995 she married the French comedian, actor and author Pierre Palmade ; the marriage was divorced again in 2004.
