The Ordinance on Flammable Liquids ( VbF ) is a German statutory ordinance , the provisions of which were largely repealed on January 1, 2003 and which have been replaced by the Technical Rules for Industrial Safety (TRBS) and TRGS 510, which supplement the Industrial Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV) .

Section 7 (1) sentence 1 in conjunction with Sections 5 and 6, Section 9 (5) sentence 1 no. 3 in conjunction with Section 3 and Section 24 sentence 1 are still valid. These regulations are used for defense purposes or the fulfillment of intergovernmental commitments on Pipelines as defined in § 2 1 no. 1 and para para.. 2 of the long distance pipeline Regulation (RohrFLtgV) of 27 September 2002 ( Federal Law Gazette I, p. 3777, 3809 ). The aforementioned provisions of the VbF shall continue to apply accordingly until a replacing legal regulation on the approval and supervision of such systems comes into force.

Two hazard classes of flammable liquids were originally defined in the VbF :

  • Hazard class A (insoluble, flammable liquids):
    • Hazard class AI: liquids with a flash point below 21 ° C (e.g. gasoline )
    • Hazard class AII: liquids with a flash point between 21 ° C and 55 ° C (e.g. petroleum )
    • Hazard class AIII: liquids with a flash point between 55 ° C and 100 ° C (e.g. diesel fuel )
  • Hazard class B:
    • Flammable liquids soluble in water at 15 ° C with a flash point below 21 ° C (e.g. ethanol )

The new classification of flammable liquids is as follows:

Classification according to hazardous substances law ( Directive 67/548 / EEC ) for liquid substances on which the BetrSichV is based

  • F + extremely flammable liquids with a flash point below 0 ° C
  • F Highly flammable liquids with a flash point of 0 ° C-21 ° C
  • R10 (new: H226) flammable liquids with a flash point of 21 ° C-55 ° C
