The catering service is a sub-area of the support service in disaster control . Its task is to produce and distribute hot and cold meals as well as beverages to supply those affected and emergency services in an emergency.

The catering service is usually set up in the form of sub-units of the care service, such as the catering group (in the former care trains according to the federal government or the also disbanded DRK relief train ) or catering teams in rapid response groups , the care trains according to state law and deployment units and in turn disbanded utility service . In some federal states, however, an independent deployment of a catering group in the form of a rapid response group for catering is now planned.

As part of the expanded disaster control , the federal government provided widespread equipping of the catering service units with support trucks and field cookers .

The catering service units consist of volunteer helpers who have received adequate training for their work. In some aid organizations, preparations are made for sub-tasks of the catering service, such as the distribution of catering, in the basic training. There, the department-specific training for the catering service builds on this. Further courses take place in training to become a catering assistant, kitchen technician and field cook .

As a civil and disaster control organization of the federal government, the technical relief organization maintains its own catering teams (Log-V), which are deployed as specialist groups in individual local associations.
