The care truck (BtLKW), also called equipment vehicle care ( GW-Bt , GW-B or according to BBK GW Bt ), as part of the MTF equipment vehicle logistics care (GW Log Bt) or less often truck logistics care ( LKW Log Bt ), is a Vehicle of the specialist service and catering service of civil and disaster control in Germany.

tasks

The care truck is made available by the federal government together with a field cooker to the aid organizations active in civil defense . This unit is used to provide food for emergency services or those in need.

In principle, the preparation and distribution of meals takes place at stationary facilities with electricity and water supply. The equipment carried also allows independent operation.

In addition to transporting the necessary material and the catering team, the BtLKW can be used to transport food and up to 2000 liters of drinking water after the FKH and the tent have been set up. The prepared food can also be transported to distant distribution points in insulated food containers.

units

The care truck originally belonged to the catering group of the care train ( STAN -Nr. 061), which consisted of three BtLKW with an equal number of FKH. Today the service truck, as the vehicle of the catering team, belongs to the service group of the emergency unit . As a rule, it is supplemented by a care combination or a similar vehicle - also due to its small number of people .

standardization

The BtLKW is not standardized in any DIN , but there is evidence of equipment from the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Aid (BBK). In addition, in Rhineland-Palatinate (see below) there is also a standardization in accordance with Technical Guideline No. 4 of the Ministry of the Interior for equipment vehicle support (GW-B).

history

The BtLKW appeared for the first time in 1975 as a towing vehicle for the FKH. The first vehicles are MAN 7.90 F. To date, five other vehicle types have been purchased as successors. The latest procurement is based on the Iveco Eurocargo .

Sometimes old doctors ' vehicles were also used as placeholder vehicles.

Special case of North Rhine-Westphalia

In North Rhine-Westphalia , the existing (formerly state-owned) Bt trucks on Iveco Eurocargo with flatbed and tarpaulin were largely transferred to the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . As part of this, the vehicles were retrofitted in autumn 2011 with a tail lift, trolley system, digital radio and LED warning systems. In 2013, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia procured 26 additional Bt trucks on Mercedes-Benz Vario with swivel wall superstructures from Ewers. In 2015, a further 26 service trucks, also with a swivel wall structure from Ewers, were procured on Mercedes-Benz Atego. In 2019, a further 52 service vehicles based on the Mercedes-Benz Atego 918 were procured for the first time in white with a swivel wall structure from Ewers.

The current concept for care place 500 in NRW does not provide for the preparation of hot meals in the field and, accordingly, no more field cookers. However, since many operational units still have field cook stoves (often owned by the organization), the NRW support truck delivered in September 2013 was equipped with the appropriate towing equipment:
The vehicle has both a ball head coupling with a 12 V lighting system and a pin coupling with a continuous air brake system and 24 V lighting system. A special feature is the permissible trailer load of the pin coupling of 1500 kg for unbraked trailers. In view of the fact that the Progress 57/4 field cookers are often still available and are only equipped with a manual parking brake with a permissible total weight of 1200 kg,
this has been installed on special trailers 57/5 .

Equipment (example)

The loading of a care truck can include, for example, the following items:

Equipment vehicle support (Rhineland-Palatinate)

The equipment vehicle support (GW-B) according to technical guideline No. 4 of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate is based on a multi-purpose vehicle (MZF 2) . Among other things, he carries 10 stretchers, 25 field beds or camp beds, disinfectant material, water canisters for 100 liters, hygiene and protective equipment, two heated tents, a power generator and lighting set, kettle, office supplies and material for patient documentation (including 10 injured person cards ).
