The medical service vehicle is a vehicle used by the medical service in civil and disaster control in Germany . It was procured by the federal government and in some cases also by other bodies. It is no longer being delivered, but can still be found here and there.

Short name

The term doctor's troop vehicle is correctly abbreviated as doctor's vehicle . This abbreviation was defined by the Federal Office for Civil Protection (today: Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance ), which originally procured and equipped it for the medical train.

standardization

The DoktorTrKW is not DIN-standardized, but there is a federal strength and equipment certificate (STAN) for medical troop vehicles owned by the federal government. As long as the vehicle is still being run as a federal vehicle, the equipment in accordance with the federal STAN must be kept as a minimum.

tasks

The medical troop car fulfills the following main tasks:

  • In addition to the driver and front passenger seats, the vehicle has a four-seater bench behind for transporting crews , i.e. space for a total of six people (the so-called medical team ).
  • The construction of a treatment station or a part of it takes place with the material carried.
  • With a kit in the loading space for receiving the stretchers is Injured transport of four possible patient lying (right and left in each case two). This means of transport is only used as a makeshift. In the absence of a companion seat, safe supervision is not possible during the journey and transport is therefore only permitted in extreme cases ( disaster or defense ).
  • With these stretcher brackets, the stationary vehicle can be used as a treatment room, even if loading it is a bit tedious.
  • Equipped with an auxiliary heater, the vehicle is also suitable for longer periods as a lounge for the crew .
  • After the national requirements for disaster control trains were discontinued, the existing vehicles were put to different, sometimes novel uses. Some countries have created the possibility of the vehicle as a placeholder for not procured care trucks to use. For this purpose, it could be equipped with a trailer hitch at the expense of the federal government to pull the field cooker . The same applies in some federal states, in which the medical team's vehicle serves as a placeholder for the medical equipment vehicle (GW-San). For this purpose, the medical troop vehicles were adapted to their new tasks (see below).

History and use

The doctor TrKW is mentioned for the first time in October 1980 in the strength and equipment certificate no. 041 "The medical train". Originally belonged to the doctor group of the medical train according to STAN no. 041 two medical troop cars. However, the first vehicles (MB type L 407 D 7 35) were not procured until 1983 and delivered to units of the extended disaster control. Further vehicles of the same type were procured between 1985 and 1987. Vehicles of the type MB 507 D-KA / 37 followed in 1988 and the type MB 508 D-KA / 37 in 1990, the last acquisition took place in 1992, this time based on a Fiat Ducato of the type 290.

The medical troop car was originally used for treatment centers in civil defense and was intended to ensure that the population was supplied in the event of a defense. The loading according to the strength and equipment verification was designed so that the crew of the vehicle could set up an independent aid station and, if necessary, also carry out a transport of the injured on their own responsibility. For this reason, each medical team was assigned its own doctor. After the end of the Cold War, the concept was rethought.

Today medical troop vehicles are often used in rapid response groups (usually rapid response groups, medical service ) or emergency units . For the new types of use, the existing vehicles tend to be underpowered and the design of the cargo space does not correspond to the expanded material requirements to be carried. Some aid organizations or federal states are now procuring other types of vehicles that meet the increased requirements. In some cases, the existing medical troop vehicles were also fitted with shelves or further modified in order to be able to load the specialist service equipment better.

variants

Some federal states or organizations have developed their own variants that differ from the federal versions above:

Bavarian variant

For example, the medical team car of the Bavarian medical train concept (1988) was built on the basis of a Ford chassis, offered space for six emergency services and was equipped with material for about 20 patients as well as a medical tent, emergency power generator, stretchers and accessories. For this, no recumbent patients could be admitted to the vehicle. Only a few examples of these vehicles were delivered.

Baden-Württemberg variant

In Baden-Wuerttemberg there was the type variant of a doctor troop car Land (AW-Land): This vehicle variant is no longer delivered. It was made available to the district associations in accordance with a decree of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior of February 23, 1988. The gross vehicle weight is 5.6 tons.
