The Vestische Gymnasium is a coeducational school in Bottrop-Kirchhellen .

history

The grammar school was founded in 1967 on Sterkrader Straße in Bottrop and moved to Horster Straße a year later. In 1973 a teachers strike took place from May 18 to 25 due to a shortage of teachers, which attracted nationwide attention. A year later, the former state school was handed over to the community. In 1986 the vestibule moved to the main school building in Kirchhellen, where a new building was erected four years later. The secondary school moved into a new building next door.

On September 20, 2017, the VGK was officially named as a school without racism - school with courage . Armin Laschet served as the school's godfather.

Currently (2019) 50 teachers teach at this school.

classes

Both Latin and French are offered as a second foreign language . The focus of teaching is on musical and artistic themes: there are, throughout the trial stage the subjects of music and art . Catholic and Protestant religion are taught. Additional courses are the pedagogy course and the philosophy course. Project courses from all three areas of responsibility are offered.

The school uses the Moodle learning platform , on which teachers can post teaching material. There is also a project with a partner school in England via the Comenius website eTwinning.

In the entry classes, you can choose between free work and non-free work classes (which are then taught in supplementary lessons in the core subjects as well as in learning and work techniques).

The Vestische Gymnasium belongs to the upper third in North Rhine-Westphalia in terms of learning status surveys (grade 8), and in mathematics it was even among the top 10 gymnasiums. The first central exams in grade 10 brought excellent results, and in the first central Abitur, 4 of 55 Abitur graduates achieved a grade of 1.0.

For several years there has been support until 4:00 p.m., which is supplemented by working groups.

Since summer 2014 there has been a new hourly cycle at the Vestischen Gymnasium. Instead of the normal 45 minutes, one lesson is 67.5 minutes long.

Events

I can do something evening

The I can do something evening has been held annually since 2001. Here, the test level students can show their skills (dance, singing, skits, tricks, etc.). The evening takes place in the Kirchhellener Brauhaus.

Summer concert

The summer concert is intended for students of all grades, as the I-can-something evening is only for fifth and sixth graders. Both soloists and the orchestra , the wind ensemble , the school band and the VGK choir perform at the summer concert . The summer concert always takes place on two consecutive evenings in the week before the summer holidays .
