The VfL Biedenkopf e. V. is a German football club based in the Hessian town of Biedenkopf in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district .

history

Founded until World War II

The club was founded in 1911 as the Union Biedenkopf football club and won a championship for the first time in 1914. During the First World War , games were suspended for the time being. The second football club was founded in 1923 with SV Biedenkopf . On October 20, 1928, the two clubs merged to form today's VfL Biedenkopf . At this point in time, in addition to football, you also have the athletics , swimming and tennis departments . In 1930 the handball and boxing departments were added. In 1933, the soccer team won the championship again and was promoted to the district class. During the Second World War, gaming operations had to be suspended again.

post war period

After the end of the war, the soccer team managed to achieve the championship in the A-League in 1949 and thus to rise to the district class. There they landed in second place behind VfL Marburg in the following year, which meant that the team was able to qualify for promotion to the third-class first amateur league Hessen . With 26:50 points, at the end of the 1950/51 season , however, it was only enough for 18th place, which meant the team had to be relegated again. Until 1955 you could then still hold in the district league, after which VfL had to relegate to the A-League. Here the team was champion in 1957 and was allowed to move up to the district class, but this only lasted for one season and it went straight down again. Another year later, however, the championship in the A-League should succeed again. This time it was enough for a season after which the team should be relegated again. After a division reform, it even went into the B-League in 1964. Here the club became champions in 1965 and was allowed to move up to the A-class Marburg-Biedenkopf. From there, in 1969, after the championship, it went back to the district class.

Elevator crew status

From the district class, however, the team finally said goodbye in 1973. In 1980, the next relegation to the B-League followed. Although the championship was won again in 1982, after being promoted to the A-League, it was only two years before the next relegation. However, this should not sadden the club and they succeeded two years later to rise again to the A-League, where VfL was then able to hold constant for ten years. In 1996, he was promoted to the district class again, which the club was allowed to attend until 1999. Then it went back down to the A-League.

However, once again there was no question of a quick return. In 2000 it went straight down to the B-League, which was to be followed by direct promotion in the following season. This lasted only two years until it went back to the district league B. After the 2004/05 season, after three years with 76 points over second place, participation in the promotion relegation, which the club was able to win for itself and thus returned to the district league A for the second time in the millennium, finally succeeded. So it was theoretically over again at the end of the 2005/06 season, with 21 points the team should actually have been relegated directly from 17th place. Thanks to a division reform, VfL and some other relegation candidates were allowed to remain in the league. However, this should not help for long and at the end of the 2006/07 season it went back to the district league B with 29 points over the 15th place after the unsuccessful relegation participation.

Series of ascents to this day

Until the next championship, it would last until the end of the 2009/10 season. With 54 points it was enough for the promotion this time just before SV Hartenrod tied for points . The following season came to an end with second place, driven by this, the championship was finally achieved again after the 2011/12 season. After more than a decade, he managed to leave his own circle and move up to the regional league. After relegation in the first season, they managed to place themselves in second place behind VfB Marburg with 75 points at the end of the 2014/15 season . This allowed the team to take part in a promotion round, in which, however, not a single victory could be achieved, so the club missed promotion in the end. Thanks to the formation of a syndicate on the part of RW Wetzlar with Eintracht Wetzlar , the team was finally able to move up to the group league Gießen / Marburg . However, the club could not hold up there and it went down again for the first time in a long time, back to the district top division. However, this should not be the beginning of a new decline, so after the 2016/17 season with 72 points the championship and thus the direct rise again, without the detour via relegation. Since then it has been possible to keep the class until today.
