The VfL Reken (full name: Verein für Leibesübungen Reken 1949 eV ) was a football club from Reken . The club's first team played between 1984 and 1988 in the then third-class Oberliga Westfalen .

history

VfL Reken was founded on September 16, 1949. Until well into the 1970s, the club was only active at the local level, before the first team was on the way up within a few years. After promotion to the regional league in 1979, the team managed to march through to the association league in the following season 1979/80 . Four years later, he was promoted to the Oberliga Westfalen. In the 1986/87 season , the best placement was achieved with tenth place, before relegation followed a year later as penultimate. It was the first of three relegations in a row that led the team to the district league in 1990. In the 1998/99 season the Rekener returned to the regional league, but otherwise commuted between the district league and the district league A. In 2012, they were promoted to the district league.

Successor club SC Reken

On July 1, 2015, VfL Reken merged with Westfalia Groß Reken and Blau-Weiß Hülsten to form SC Reken . The merged club promptly rose from the district league and managed to rise again in 2018.
