Virtual library for mathematics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Virtual Library of Mathematics ( vifamath ) was a virtual library that enabled scientific internet research for mathematically relevant specialist information .

It provided simultaneous access to library catalogs, preprint servers, journals, digitized material and mathematical websites. For example, a library search (ie a meta search in the “virtual card boxes”) is offered in all of this data, as well as a thematic search entry.

The portal was created by the Göttingen State and University Library and, in a second phase, it was further developed and expanded in cooperation with the Technical Information Library in Hanover and the Specialized Information Center in Karlsruhe . The background was in particular the special collection areas Pure Mathematics (SUB Göttingen) and Applied Mathematics (TIB Hannover) that were located at the two libraries . The FIZ Karlsruhe is co-editor of the division organ Zentralblatt MATH .

The vifamath project was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) between 2005 and 2010 .

With the start of the Specialized Information Service (FID) Mathematics , the portal was transferred to the FID portal. All functionalities are still available in FID Mathematics.
