Prince Viktor Amadeus of Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym

Viktor Amadeus von Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym (born May 21, 1744 in Schloss Schaumburg , † May 2, 1790 in Pardakoski , Finland ) was a Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg- Schaumburg-Hoym and a Russian general.

Life

Viktor Amadeus was a son of Prince Viktor I of Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym (1693–1772) from his second marriage to Hedwig Sophie (1717–1795), daughter of Count Wenzel Ludwig Henckel von Donnersmarck .

With no prospect of a succession in his father's principality, Viktor Amadeus embarked on a military career. He fought first in the Dutch and later in the imperial service and in 1772 joined the Russian military of his Anhalt relatives Tsarina Catherine II . From 1775 major general and commander of the body cuirassier regiment, he became lieutenant general in 1782. He fought with distinction in the Russian-Austrian Turkish War . During the Russo-Swedish War , Victor Amadeus was seriously wounded in a skirmish near the Finnish town of Pardakoski and died a few days later as a result of the wound.

Viktor Amadeus was the recipient of numerous Russian awards, including the Russian Order of St. George , the Alexander Nevsky Order and the Order of St. Andrew the First Called . The future General and Minister of War Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly began his military service under the direct command of the Prince .

Marriage and offspring

Viktor Amadeus married Magdalene (1742–1819), daughter of Prince Friedrich Wilhelm zu Solms-Braunfels , with whom he had a son, on April 21, 1778 in Schloss Schaumburg :
