Victor Del Litto

Victor Del Litto (born January 1, 1911 in Ancona , † August 9, 2004 in Grenoble ) was a French Romance studies and literary scholar of Italian origin.

life and work

Vittorio Del Litto fled Italian fascism to Grenoble in 1930 and fought under the German occupation as a resident in the Vercors . He completed his habilitation in 1954 with the two theses La vie intellectuelle de Stendhal. Genèse et évolution de ses idées 1802-1821 , Paris 1958, 1962, Geneva 1997 and En marge des manuscrits de Stendhal. Compléments et fragments inédits 1803-1820 (Paris 1955). From 1957 he occupied the chair for comparative literature at the University of Grenoble (and was also dean).

As a specialist in Stendhal , he managed the legacy of Henri Martineau († 1958), Paul Arbelet (1874-1938), the Grenoble librarian and founder of the Stendhal Museum Louis Royer (1888-1938), through his numerous bibliographical, biographical and editorial work , as well as by François Michel (dit Dalès, † 1956). He founded the Stendhal Club and published 149 issues of the magazine of the same name from 1958 to 1995. In 1970 he founded the Center d'études stendhaliennes et romantiques in Grenoble.
