Kurt Ringger

Kurt Ringger (born May 19, 1934 in Zurich ; † March 13, 1988 in Wiesbaden ) was a Swiss Romance studies and literary scholar .

life and work

Ringger received his doctorate in 1964 with Reto R. Bezzola in Zurich with Ambienti ed intrecci nelle commedie di Carlo Goldoni (Bern 1965). As a high school teacher in Zurich, he completed his habilitation in 1971 with Die «Lais». On the structure of the poetic imagination of Marie de France (Tübingen 1973). From 1976 he held a chair for Romance philology at the University of Mainz .

The Mainz Academy of Sciences , appointed by Ringger as sole heir, awards the Kurt Ringger Prize annually from the Kurt Ringger Foundation for the promotion of young Romance scholars.
