Paul Arbelet

Paul Arbelet (born February 18, 1874 in Paris , † September 4, 1938 in Planchez , Département Nièvre ) was a French Romance studies and Stendhal specialist.

life and work

Arbelet attended the École normal supérieure and in 1897 passed the Agrégation . He was a high school teacher in Moulins, Tours, Nîmes, Evreux, Versailles and from 1913 in Paris ( Lycée Louis-le-Grand and Lycée Condorcet ). In 1913 he completed his habilitation with the two theses La jeunesse de Stendhal (Paris 1914, 2 vols., 1919) and L'histoire de la peinture en Italie et les plagiats de Stendhal (Paris 1914, Geneva 2001) and researched Stendhal throughout his life . In 1936 he retired.
