Victor Puhonny
Victor Puhonny (* 1838 in Prague , † 1909 in Baden-Baden ) was a German landscape painter .
Life
After Puhonny moved from Prague to Baden-Baden, he studied with the Baden court painter Georg Saal . In Paris , Louis Frédéric Schützenberger was his teacher. His son Ivo Puhonny was a well-known commercial artist. The granddaughter Doris married Friedrich Böer and was a graphic artist herself. In 2009, the city of Baden-Baden posthumously awarded Victor Puhonny the city prize "Artists in Baden-Baden" .
Puhonny was close friends with the violinist and painter Vitus Staudacher (1850–1925). Both often painted in the great outdoors in and around Baden-Baden. In this open-air painting, the artists painted the object to be depicted directly, in natural light and natural surroundings. This form of painting is in contrast to studio painting . Staudacher and Puhonny were considered the "pioneers" of this new way of painting in Baden-Baden.
literature
In the novel The Hourglass , Puhonny is mentioned several times as a painter ( The Hourglass by Otto Flake , Sigbert Mohn Verlag, 1962).
