Victor Serventi

Victor Serventi (born June 23, 1907 in Algiers , † March 16, 2000 in Margency ) was a French composer.

Victor Serventi studied piano from 1921 at the Paris Conservatory, first with Joseph Morpain , later with Lazare Lévy , harmony with Jean Gallon , counterpoint and fugue with Noël Gallon and composition with Henri Busser . Since 1934 he took part in the competition for the Prix ​​de Rome several times and in 1937 won the Premier Grand Prix with the cantata La Belle et la bête .

From 1943 to 1977 Serventi was a professor at the Paris Conservatory. He composed a. a. Variations sur une complainte corse for piano (1938), a suite for piano (1942) and variations for clarinet and piano. His most famous work, which is regularly performed at concerts and has been recorded several times, is Largo et scherzando for double bass and piano , written in 1944 .

Serventi was married to the singer Suzanne Juyol .
