Victor Sourjik

Victor Sourjik (born May 9, 1970 in Minsk , Belarusian SSR ) is a Belarusian - German physicist and molecular biologist at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg .

Life

Sourjik studied at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology , where he received his degree in physics and engineering and his master's degree in molecular biology in 1993. He continued his scientific training in Germany, where he received his doctorate in genetics from the University of Regensburg in 1997 . After a postdoctoral period at Harvard University , Sourjik became a junior research group leader at the Center for Molecular Biology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in 2003 . In 2009 he was appointed Professor of Molecular Biology at the Center for Molecular Biology at Heidelberg University. In 2013 Victor Sourjik became director at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg. Sourjik has also been a professor of physics and biology at the Philipps University of Marburg since 2014 .

Sourjik works in the fields of systems and synthetic biology. He is interested in the organization of cellular networks in microorganisms and their molecular and physiological functions. To do this, he uses quantitative and microscopic methods and combines theory and experiment. One of Sourjik's main research areas is microbial chemotaxis .
