Victor Weisz (Viktor Weiss) (born April 25, 1913 in Berlin , † February 23, 1966 in London ) was a painter and caricaturist.

Life

He started early with sports and portrait caricatures and worked for the Berliner 12-Uhr Blatt . His first caricatures in 1929 commented on the rise of the NSDAP . As a Jew, he was banned from working. In 1935, before he fled to England via Hungary, he found support and shelter from Kurt Wendler ( Nollendorfplatz 6) in Berlin .

In England he became one of the most popular and best caricaturists as "Vicky" (alongside David Low ). He accurately commented on the events of the day and the world in text and images. Political developments and his own experience made him primarily an opponent of the NSDAP, but communism was not spared either. Clients included the Evening Standard , Daily Mirror , New Statesman and News Chronicle .

"Vicky" committed suicide in 1966.
