Victoria Matthews (* 1954 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian Anglican bishop .

Life

After finishing school, Matthews studied Anglican theology at the University of Toronto , where she graduated from Trinity College in 1976 . In 1979 she received her Masters from Yale Divinity School . In 1980 Matthews was ordained a priestess in the Anglican Church of Canada . From 1997 to 2007, Matthews was Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Edmonton in Canada. Her successor was Bishop Jane Alexander . In February 2008, Matthews was elected Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Christchurch , New Zealand , which is part of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia . She was inducted into office on August 30, 2008 in Christchurch Cathedral.
