The Victoria and Albert was like her predecessor yacht a steam-powered yacht with side paddle wheels. It had a total length of 120 m (360  feet ). The launch took place on January 16, 1855. Her service as a royal state yacht for the ruling monarch lasted from 1855 to 1900. The ship was subordinate to the Royal Navy and was operated by her. The Victoria and Albert was more than twice as large in a displacement of 2,470 tonnes, the old state yacht. With her paddle wheels she reached a maximum cruising speed of 15  knots . The crew was 240 men.

Victoria and Albert was scrapped after their service ended in 1904.
