The Victoria and Albert was a motor yacht with two steam-powered paddle wheels. She had the function of a royal state yacht for the ruling monarch and was operated by the Royal Navy . For this reason it is regularly referenced with the ship name prefix “HMY”. The yacht was designed by Symonds and built at the shipyard in Pembroke Dock ( keel laid in 1842), it was launched on April 25, 1843. The ship had a tonnage of 1,034 tons and was armed with two guns. Victoria and Albert was the first royal yacht to have a 430  hp steam engine .

The Victoria and Albert was in service from 1843 to 1855 and made 20 voyages in that time. After the successor yacht of the same name was launched on January 16, 1855, she was renamed Osborne and scrapped in 1868 .
