Vidi aquam is the name of the antiphon that is sung during Holy Mass when the congregation is sprinkled with baptismal water by the celebrant during the Sunday baptismal commemoration between Easter and Pentecost . The antiphon can also be sung on Easter Vigil after the consecration of baptismal water. The text refers to the words of the prophet Ezekiel ( Ezekiel 47: 2 EU ), who saw the water of the temple as a sanctifying flood that flows through the earth. If holy water is used outside of Easter to commemorate baptism , the antiphon Asperges me is sung .
text
"Vidi aquam egredientem de templo, a latere dextro, alleluja:
et omnes ad quos pervenit aqua ista, salvi facti sunt,
et dicent: alleluja, alleluja."
"I saw water flow from the right side of the temple, Hallelujah,
and all who came to it were healed,
and they will say, Hallelujah, Hallelujah."
