Four masters from the Beishan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Four Masters from Beishan ( Chinese  北山 四 先生 , Pinyin Běishān sì xiānsheng ) is a collective term for the four Chinese philosophers He Ji何 基 (1188–1269) and his three followers Wang Bo王柏 (1197–1274), Jin Lüxiang金履祥 ( 1232–1303) and Xu Qian许 谦 (1269 or 1270–1337) from the late Song and Yuan dynasties . They are so named because all of them were from Jinhua, Zhejiang Province , and He Ji, who lived in the Bei Shan ('Northern Mountains') of Jinhua, was often referred to by scholars as Master Beishan. In their neo-Confucian philosophy they followed the teaching and principle of Zhu Xi .
