from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fourth Holy War (340–338 BC) is one of the wars in the history of ancient Greece that was waged in the interests of Delphi by a large part of the Amphictyonic states against groups that in some way defended the interests of the state or the Sanctuary of Delphi.

The fourth holy war was initiated by the Athenian Aeschines , who in March 339 BC. BC in the council of the Amphictyons accused the Ozolian locrians of Amphissa that they too illegally used the Apollon Plain of Krissa (or Kirrha ) to their advantage.

In October 339 BC he became the leader in the war that broke out. Called King Philip II of Macedonia, who was able to overthrow the Lokrians. This act led to the world-historically significant battle of Chaironeia .
