The Vietnamese cardinal fish ( Tanichthys micagemmae ) is a freshwater fish from the carp family (Cyprinidae). So far, it has only been found in the Ben Hai River in Quảng Trị Province in central Vietnam . Due to its peaceful behavior and its size, it is suitable as an ornamental fish for socialization with small freshwater shrimp . The type epithet micagemmae refers to the sparkling color pattern of the type ( Latin micare "sparkle", gemma "jewel").

The Vietnamese cardinal fish reaches a maximum length of about 2.3 cm. The head and trunk below the central lateral line are whitish with numerous dark gray points. Two longitudinal bands of equal width run on the sides of the body, the upper one is white, the lower one black.
