history

Vigevano Calcio was founded in 1921 in the town of Vigevano in the province of Pavia , Lombardy . There had already been a sports club in the city before, which was originally founded in 1898 as Società Ginnastica Pro Vigevano and whose name has changed several times over the years. In 1921 a football department was spun off, which was named Giovani Calciatori Vigevanesi . Fifteen years later the first name change took place, the name was changed to AC Vigevano . The football club now bore this name until 1979, before the club name FC Vigevano was introduced in 1979 due to a re-establishment . In 1993 there were changes again and the club was called Vigevano Calcio from then on , as it is still called today.

Vigevano achieved the greatest successes under the first two names. A total of eleven years the club played intermittently in the second Italian football league, the series B . They were promoted for the first time in the 1930/31 season, when a first rank in the Promozione, which at that time was the third division, was achieved, which resulted in promotion. In Serie B 1931/32 Vigevanesi played well and ended up in a good fourth place at the end of the season. This result was only topped by a second place in Girona A of Serie B in 1933/34, when the promotion to Serie A was only missed in promotion playoffs, where the SG Sampierdarenese had to admit defeat. Only two years after the success of the now renamed AC Vigevano club in which had to Series C dismount. After the immediate resurgence, they were back in the second division in the following years, but could only ever reach positions in the lower midfield. In 1939/40 they relegated to Serie C and it was not until 1946 that Vigevano returned to Serie B. In 1946/47 and 1947/48 AC Vigevano played two seasons in the second division before relegating back to the third division. In the 1957/58 season, the club acted for the last time to date in Serie B and immediately rose again just one year after promotion. In the course of the following seven years, the crash took place in the fifth division. To this day, the club commutes between regional leagues and the lower professional leagues. Currently they play in the Eccellenza, the sixth Italian league, in the Lombardy season.
