The Viking Valley is a valley on the east coast of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It is located on the eastern flank of the Mars glacier . A branched river flows through the valley and feeds Secret Lake .
A team of the British Antarctic Survey led by the microbiologist David Donaldson Wynn-Williams (1946-2002) visited this valley when exploring the Mars glacier between 1992 and 1993. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1993 based on the name of the Mars glacier. It is named after NASA's Viking program to explore the planet Mars in 1976.
