Vilde Nilsen (born January 12, 2001 in Tromsø ) is a Norwegian disabled athlete in the disciplines of cross-country skiing and biathlon .

Life

Vilde Nilsen was born in Tromsø and began cross-country skiing when she was three and biathlon when she was nine . When she was eight years old, she was diagnosed with the connective tissue disease systemic sclerosis , which led to underdevelopment of the left leg, uneven leg lengths and reduced mobility.

Career

Vilde Nilsen began taking part in competitions as a disabled athlete and attended the sports high school in Tromsø. At the age of fifteen she made her debut at the Norwegian Championships. Two years later she won the silver medal in the cross-country sprint at the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang .

At the Nordic Para-Ski World Championships in Prince George, Canada in February 2019, she won four gold medals in cross-country skiing and one bronze medal in biathlon.

In the 2019/2020 cross-country season, Nilsen was superior and won seven World Cup victories as well as the overall World Cup one month before the end of the season.
