Vilko Ovsenik (born November 9, 1928 in Begunje near Bled , Yugoslavia ; † August 3, 2017 ) was a Slovenian composer and clarinetist .

Life

Ovsenik was the older brother of Slavko Avsenik , with whom he created the Oberkrainer sound in the 1950s .

It is interesting that both brothers have different family names, although the old family name Ovsenik was changed to Avsenik during the First World War . This would have been the family name of both brothers, but the father's wish was that one of them should carry on the original family name, so Vilko decided to use the old spelling.

Ovsenik studied clarinet at the Ljubljana Music Academy and graduated in 1961.

Works

Ovsenik's compositions were created almost entirely in collaboration with his brother Slavko. Only after the dissolution of the Ensemble Original Oberkrainer , to which Ovsenik contributed all the arrangements, did he publish compositions that were entirely his own.
