location

The villa , built between 1914 and 1917 according to a design by the Herford architect Wilhelm Köster (1860–1946), stands about one kilometer north of downtown Salzufler, between Exterschen Strasse in the east, Goethestrasse in the south and Obernbergstrasse in the west, where it used to be the ailing Salzufler Schützenhaus stood.

The neo-baroque property, built as the retirement home of the Bielefeld factory owner Nikolaus Dürkopp (born February 26, 1842 in Herford; † June 25, 1918 in Bad Salzuflen) includes, in addition to the actual villa, three outbuildings that were built in the 1960s and are now also listed buildings.

history

After Dürkopp's death in 1918, his widow Emilie opened a café in the villa and leased it as the Hotel Restaurant Pension Roseneck . In 1929 "The elegant, comfortable hotel in the most beautiful and quiet location" was owned by Otto Feitsch. The Reichsbahn-Kameradschaftswerk bought the villa with the surrounding park-like garden in 1941 and used it as a children's rest home during the turmoil of the war .

The Art Nouveau villa was completely renovated for the hundredth birthday. Today it is run as the Hotel Villa Dürkopp by the Bahn-Sozialwerk Foundation and is freely accessible with its high ceilings, stylish chandeliers and colorfully ornamented windows.
