The Villa Knobelsdorff is a listed building in Pasewalk , a town in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern . In the 19th and 20th centuries it was the residence of the eldest of the cuirassier regiment "Queen" (Pomeranian) No. 2 .

history

Friedrich Wilhelm I worried about the reconstruction of the city after the end of the Thirty Years War . In 1721 he moved, among other things, the Ansbach - Bayreuth - Dragoon Regiment to the city, from which the "Queen" (Pomeranian) No. 2 cuirassier regiment later emerged, which enjoyed a high reputation among the population. This was also underlined by the fact that the respective Prussian queen was head of the regiment . However, the members of the regiment initially had no accommodation of their own, so they were quartered in the apartments of the Pasewalker citizens. This also applied to the regiment commander.

In 1867, Lieutenant Colonel Emil von Pfuhl took over the management of the regiment and rented a room on Marktstrasse. On his initiative, the officers 'corps purchased a piece of land by the curtain wall and had an officers' casino built there until 1869. Von Pfuhl had to go into debt for the construction and therefore - against the advice of his friends - sold the left half of the property for 7,200 marks . In 1882, a spacious barracks was built on what was then the city's outskirts , so that the officers and their families could move there. In 1895 a soap factory became interested in the left half of the property. The officers feared that a factory could be built next to the casino. They therefore bought the property back on November 16, 1895 for 17,400 marks. In order to use the land, which had been repurchased at great expense, a commanders' house was to be built for the site elder. In 1896 they commissioned the master mason Moschell to build a villa based on plans by Thiedemann's privy councilor . Alfred von Schlieffen moved into the house on April 1, 1897. For the inauguration he received a chandelier for the dining room from the Empress . At the end of 1910 Oskar came from Prussia to Pasewalk and did his officer service there. He moved into the villa and used it as an apartment from then on. It is said that his mother visited him on October 22, 1910. He was followed by Lieutenant Colonel Hans von Knobelsdorff in August 1913. He was the last commander of the regiment until the regiment was dissolved. After retiring from active service in 1921, he stayed in the building and set up a wine shop there. Only with the advance of the Red Army did he leave the villa on April 27, 1945. It was then used, among other things, as a refugee home and stood empty for some time.

In the 1990s, an investor converted the villa into a hotel with a restaurant. The opening took place on November 28, 1996. In the basement of the building is the Alte Pasewalker Bierkeller , in which the Pasenelle , a traditional Pasewalker beer, is served.
