The Great Neukogel is 1053  m above sea level. A. high mountain of the Gutenstein Alps in southern Lower Austria between the Dürren Wand in the south, the Längapiesting and Piestingtal valleys in the north-west and the Großer Kitzberg in the north-east.

location

At the foot of the Great Neukogel are the villages of Gutenstein in the northwest and Pernitz in the northeast. In the southeast, the moat with the Waidmannsbach separates the Neukogel from the Dürren Wand. The Waidmannsbach flows on via Waidmannsfeld to Reichental , where it joins the Piesting . From Waidmannsfeld a road leads along the northeastern foothills over the Ochsenheide to Neusiedl and on to Pernitz. The Große Neukogel reaches a height of 1053  m above sea level. A. There are no refuges on the Großer Neukogel. To the east of the main peak there is a slightly lower twin peak and to the northwest a 904  m high pre-peak, over which the marked path leads. To the northeast of the Großer Neukogel lies the Kleine Neukogel at an altitude of 866  m .

Ascents

From the Ochsenheide a hiking trail leads over some pre-summits like Auf der Eben to the ridge of the Großer Neukogel and this up over the eastern twin summit to the main summit, on which there is a small summit cross. From here a second path leads over the pre-summit to Gutenstein. The path over the east ridge leads partly next to a 2 m high game fence, which it also crosses twice.

caves

At the foot of the Great Neukogel in Gutenstein is the Christ Grotto with the cadastral number 1862/98 , which is connected to a tunnel. Due to the dolomite rock, there are no other caves.
