The villa rustica , a former Roman estate ( villa rustica ), is located in the middle of a new development area in Oberensingen , a district of the city of Nürtingen in the Esslingen district in Baden-Württemberg .

During development work in 1988 in the Nürtingen new development area “In den Seelen”, wall sections that were part of a Roman estate were discovered. The site is on the southeast slope of the Nürtinger Galgenberg. In 1988 parts of the estate were excavated by the Baden-Württemberg State Monuments Office , the city of Nürtingen and volunteers from the Swabian Heimatbund continued the work in 1989 and 1990. The manor was built around 100 AD and later expanded several times. The property was surrounded by a wall that enclosed an area of around 280 × 180 meters. It is one of the largest Roman manors in Baden-Württemberg. Immediately after the year 223 AD, the complex was destroyed by fire. It is believed that the fire was caused by an Alemannic invasion.
