history

Theodor and Lilly Reinhart-Volkart in the salon of the Villa Rychenberg

The villa was built from 1887 to 1888 for Theodor Reinhart , who lived in it with his wife Lilly. The architect was Ernst Georg Jung , with whom the client was connected through the Musikkollegium and the Kunstverein.

In 1900, Theodor and Lilly Reinhart-Volkart had a photographic documentation made for their children about their house with the title “My Father's House”.

After the death of their father, the two brothers Hans and Werner Reinhart lived in the villa from 1919. From 1926 only Werner Reinhart lived in it. Like his father, he was an important patron who - as a co-founder of the International Society for New Music - was a promoter of new music until his death in 1951 . Werner Reinhart made the villa a center for contemporary music for a good 30 years.

When Werner Reinhart died, the house went to the Rychenberg Foundation he founded in 1949.

Building

It is one of the few strictly symmetrical villas by Ernst Jung and based on the French Renaissance palace building in the historicist style.

The rectangular building includes a basement, a high ground floor and an upper floor, as well as an attic. The two-story, slate-covered hip roof is made with dormer windows.

The main facade is the south facade, which is dominated by a wide, trapezoidal central projection. The north facade is the street facade and contains the main entrance, which is designed as a vestibule inside . The two-story veranda is fitted into the southeast corner.
