Vilniaus duona (dt. 'Vilnius Bread') is a food company in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius .

history

1882 was a great steam - bakery built for the Army. At that time there were 119 workers. The bread weighing 21 pounds was baked . In 1895, 378,311 poods (1 pud: 16.38 kg) bread were baked. In 1944 the Vilniaus duonos Kombinatas combine was founded in Soviet Lithuania . In addition to the main bakery, there were 15 smaller bakeries. In 1990 Vilniaus duonos pramonės gamybinis susivienijimas became the state enterprise Valstybinė įmonė "Vilniaus duona". In 2000 there were 1,586 employees. Since 2002 the company has belonged to the Scandinavian Vaasan Group ( Finland ) through the Baltvestica company and is a member of the Lantmännen group .
