List of geostationary satellites

VinaSat 1 is a geostationary communications satellite of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam . It was built and launched by Lockheed Martin on May 12, 2006 , but operated by the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT). The project started in 1995. At the end of 2002 the concept phase was completed and in early 2003 the offer phase for the satellite started. On May 12, 2006, the contract for the construction of the satellite was concluded in Hanoi, with the Canadian company Telesat serving as technical consultant.

VinaSat 1 was brought into space on April 18, 2008 by an Ariane 5 ECA rocket together with Star One C2 and positioned at 132 ° East. The satellite is based on the Lockheed Martin satellite bus A2100A platform and is equipped with C / Ku-band hybrid transponders .

For the "Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group" it improves the supply of Vietnam with radio, television, telephone and data communication (~ 12,000 Internet channels and 120 digital TV programs) and makes the country less dependent on earth-based systems. The satellite is controlled from the Quê Duong control station near Hanoi, built in 2001 .
