Star One C2 is a geostationary communications satellite from the Brazilian satellite communications company Star One , a subsidiary of Embratel and Bolivarsat .
history
Star One C2 was put into geostationary orbit on April 18, 2008 at 22:17 UTC together with the Vinasat 1 satellite with an Ariane 5 ECA and positioned at 70 ° West.
Star One C2 was built by Thales Alenia Space and is based on the three-axis stabilized Spacebus 3000 B3 platform . Its weight at launch was around 4,100 kilograms.
The structurally identical first satellite of this type ( Star One C1 ) was also launched on October 14, 2007 with an Ariane 5 together with Skynet 5B and brought to a position 65.0 ° West.
On June 2, 2008, Star One C2 took over the distribution of television channels for Brazil instead of Brasilsat B4 . The former Brasilsat B1 was also located at this position in the sky .
Since December 2008, Star One C2 has been broadcasting the Claro TV Pay TV package, a service from Embratel and Claro , which is operated in the Ku band.
