Vince Lia (born March 18, 1985 in Shepparton ) is an Australian football player . The midfielder has been under contract with Wellington Phoenix in the A-League since 2007 .

Career

Lia played for South Melbourne in the National Soccer League at the age of 16 . By the end of the league in 2004, he completed a total of 51 first division games. In 2005 he kept fit in the Victorian Premier League at Fawkner-Whittlesea Blues, an amalgamation of the Fawkner Blues and Whittlesea Stallions clubs .

With the establishment of the A-League , he was signed by Melbourne Victory , but did not come in the two seasons with Victory beyond the role of a supplementary player; when winning the championship in 2007 he was not used in the finals. His contract with Melbourne was not renewed at the end of the season and he then signed with New Zealand league rivals Wellington Phoenix . In his first season at Wellington, a thigh injury at the beginning of the season forced him to take a two-month break; Lia was able to fight for a regular place afterwards and extended his contract to 2010 during the season break. In the preparation for the season 2008/09 he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee and was thus out for the entire season.

Lia participated with the Australian U-20 selection in the 2003 and 2005 World Junior Championships . In total, he came to four tournament appearances, in 2005 he led his team in one game as captain on the field.
