The Vincent Islands are small archipelagos on the south side of South Georgia . They are at the head of King Haakon Bay .
Participants of the endurance expedition (1914-1916) led by the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton roughly mapped them. The South Georgia Survey took surveys between 1951 and 1957 . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the archipelago in 1958 after the sailor John Vincent (1879-1941), who accompanied Shackleton and four other expedition members on the rescue trip from Elephant Island to South Georgia.
