Vincenzo Chiarugi
Vincenzo Chiarugi (born February 17, 1759 in Empoli , † December 22, 1820 in Florence ) was an Italian doctor . He tried to improve the situation of the mentally ill in Tuscany through reforms . He was supported in this by Grand Duke Peter Leopold .
Chiarugi worked in various institutions in Florence .
His main work is the book published in 1793/94: "Della Pazzia in genere e in specie" (About the madness, German 1795). Chiarugi is often compared to the French psychiatry pioneer Philippe Pinel .
