Viola is a dark variety of sweet cherries belonging to the cartilage cherries . Because of its positive properties, it is one of the main varieties of the Old Land .

origin

The hybrid 'Viola' was bred in 1957 by the fruit growing research institute Jork by crossing the varieties ' Schneider's late Knorpelkirsche ' and ' Rube ' and brought onto the market in 1981.

The tree grows weak and upright pyramidal, very densely branching and bushy .

The fruit stalk is relatively short. The stone fruit is medium-sized and teardrop-shaped. The skin is shiny, dark red and almost black when fully ripe. The very juicy, firm pulp tastes hearty, sweet and sour. The fruit is robust and burst-resistant and ripens in the 6th to 7th cherry week .

Other characteristics

The 'Viola' variety blooms late, is self-sterile and therefore needs a fertilization partner . ' Schneider's late cartilage cherry ', ' Bianca ', ' Alma ' and ' Annabella ' are suitable . It is one of the most productive varieties.
