Viola Dana

Viola Dana (born June 26, 1897 in Brooklyn , New York , † July 3, 1987 in Woodland Hills , California , born Virginia Flugrath , also known as Viola Flugrath ) was an American silent film actress.

Life

Dana was the middle of three sisters. Her sisters Edna Flugrath and Shirley Mason also worked as actresses. Viola Dana made her debut in the 1910 Charles Dickens film adaptation of A Christmas Carol . She played her first leading role in Molly the Drummer Boy in 1914 . Dana has appeared in over 100 films, preferably comedies. She didn't make the leap from silent to sound film . She took her last film role in 1929 before retiring from the film business. Her last appearance in front of a camera was in a television documentary about Buster Keaton shortly before her death in 1987. Viola Dana was married twice. Both marriages ended in divorce.

A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6541 Hollywood Boulevard commemorates her achievements as an actress .
