Violin , viola , cello

The viola profonda is a four- stringed string instrument that fills the tenor range with its own timbre and thus reforms the harmonic relationship and balance of the classical string quartet . With the classic instrument types, such as woodwind instruments , brass instruments and also with the choir , each of the four voices ( soprano , alto , tenor , bass ) is represented by its own timbre.

The conventional string quartet fills its four-part structure with three timbres: two violins , viola , and cello .

The viola profonda completes the classical string quartet with the fourth timbre.

voice Classical string quartet Natural string quartet
soprano first violin violin
Old second fiddle viola
tenor viola Viola Profonda
bass violoncello violoncello

Just as the position of the violoncello is an octave below the viola, the position of the viola profonda is, according to the system, one octave below the violin.

  • String tuning: G - d - a - e 'or F - c - g - d'
  • Notation : In the G clef it sounds an octave lower than notated and transposed into the C clef it sounds a fourth lower than notated.
  • How to play: As with the violin - lying on the shoulder
