Virtua Cop is an arcade game developedby Sega . The project was led by Yu Suzuki and the original was an arcade game from 1994, which wasportedto the Sega Saturn game console in 1995. A PC version was released in 1997. In 2004 a port for the Nokia N-Gage handheld was developed, but then discontinued. However, some test units have already been produced. The N-Gage version was submitted to the USK and was approved for ages 12 and up.
Players take on the role of a police officer and use a light gun to shoot criminals. The player receives minus points for shooting civilians . Virtua Cop was way ahead of its time with polygon graphics and used them instead of 2D graphics such as sprites . The name of the game came from the Sega series, which had similar graphics and in which, for example, games like Virtua Fighter , Virtua Striker and Virtua Racing have appeared.
Two sequels followed Virtua Cop , the two games Virtua Cop 2 and Virtua Cop 3 .
Later these games were bundled in Japan and Europe in the PlayStation 2 portage called Virtua Cop 2 . The game is also known as the Virtua Squad .
